Not Your Average Cookie Cutter

You know shipping containers?

Yes, these kind of shipping containers.  Did you know that they can be used to make homes?  I know what you're thinking.  You're thinking of something like these.

Or these...

Something those crazy, end-of-the-world redneck preppers would throw together.   But I have something a bit more elegant in mind.

Let me educate you a bit.  Shipping containers cost anywhere from about $4,000-$6,000 and are modular making them really versatile building components.

They're really strong structurally and can be stacked to make multiple levels and the designs are pretty limitless.  Kinda like building a house with really big Legos.

And the insides aren't what you expect either.  Completely customizable to look like your average modern house with all the beautiful details that make it home.

And if you're looking for green, these are prefect for roof top gardens / green spaces,

that really lend themselves to every outdoor environment.

And you can place 'em practically any where you want them.  These things are great design ideas with a price tag that makes them very enticing.  The Hubs and I have talked about putting something like this out at the farm.  What do you think?

Seriously.. Thoughts?

  1. I love it! Kinda like building with Logo blocks, too true. I think I would like "mine" to be green, with grass on the roof. Maybe even a garden. Can you imagine one of those with the glass wall, sitting on a hill somewhere!
